Pray for Japan / 日本のために祈りを (1) 大統領や王室から
2011年3月11日、日本で東北地方太平洋沖地震が起こり、たくさんの方が亡くなり、被災されました。
この大災害を受けて、海外から日本に対して、本当にたくさんのメッセージが送られました。
ここでは、その中のほんの一部ですが、英語でのメッセージと、その日本語訳を紹介します。
まずは、アメリカ大統領やイギリス王室から送られたメッセージです。
アメリカ オバマ大統領からのメッセージ / Message from Obama
Because of the strength and wisdom of its people, we know that Japan will recover, and indeed will emerge stronger than ever. And as it recovers, the memory of those who have been lost will remain in our hearts, and will serve only to strengthen the friendship between our two countries.
May God bless the people of Japan.
この計り知れない悲劇の渦中において日本の国民の皆さんにお悔やみ申し上げます。アメリカは、この危急の時に、最良の同盟国の一つである日本に常に力となることを知っておいてください。
その国民の強さと賢さにより、日本は再生し、実に今までよりも力強く浮かび上がることを我々は知っています。そして、その再生につれ、亡くなった人々の記憶は我々の心の中に留まり続け、我々2カ国の間の友情を強くするためにのみ役目を果たすでしょう。

国連からのメッセージ / Message from the UN
Japan is one of the most generous and strongest benefactors, coming to the assistance of those in need the world over. In that spirit, the United Nations stands by the people of Japan and we will do anything and everything we can at this very difficult time.
日本は最も寛大で力のある後援国の1つであり、世界中の困窮した国々への支援に取り組んでいます。そうした考えから、国連は日本の国民の皆様に力をお貸しし、この非常に困難なときにおいても、我々ができることを何でも、すべて行います。
イギリス エリザベス女王からのメッセージ / Message from the Queen
I was saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life caused by the earthquake which has struck North East Japan today. Prince Philip joins me in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Your Majesty and the people of Japan. Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the dreadful disaster.

You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers at this most dreadful and challenging of times.
今朝、妻と私は日本の東北地方における巨大地震の恐ろしいニュースを聞き、非常に大きなショックと悲しみを受けました。
私は、地域社会や救急隊員がこれから対処しなければならない、その恐ろしい状況を想像を試みることしかできません。
