サンドラ・ブロックの涙あり、笑いありのスピーチ @アカデミー賞授賞式
2010年のアカデミー賞授賞式で、主演女優賞に輝いたサンドラ・ブロックのスピーチです。
このアカデミー賞を受賞した際に行うスピーチは英語で”Oscar Acceptance Speech” と呼ばれます。

私が深く恋に落ちた4人と、この夜を分かち合い、この賞を分かち合います。
ギャビー、とっても愛してるわ。あなたは最高よ。私には言葉では言い表せないわ。
キャリー、あなたの優雅さと気品と美しさと才能には、気分が悪くなるわ。
ヘレン、私たちは家族の中の家族のような感じがするし、私があなたのことをどう思うか表現する言葉がないわ。
そしてメリル、私があなたのことをなんと思うか知ってる？あなたはとってもキスがうまい人ね。
サンドラはここで、自分と同じ主演女優賞にノミネートされた他の4人の女優1人1人に向かって言葉を述べています。
1. “fall in love with ～”で、～と恋に落ちる。非常によく使われる表現です！サンドラはここにさらに”deeply”（深く）を付け加えています。
2. “this award”(この賞)はもちろん、主演女優賞(“Best Actress Award”)のことです。
3. ギャビーは、『プレシャス』でノミネートされたガボリー・シディベの愛称。
4. キャリーは、『17歳の肖像』でノミネートされたキャリー・マリガンのこと。
5. “～ make me sick”は、～が私を気持ち悪くさせる、つまり、～のせいで気分が悪くなる、という意味です。”sick”は「病気」という意味でもありますが、ここは「気分が悪い」という方が適当ですね。サンドラらしい皮肉った褒め言葉に、本人も会場も笑っていました。
6. ヘレンは、『ザ・ラスト・ステーション』でノミネートされたヘレン・ミレン。
7. メリルは、『ジュリー＆ジュリア』でノミネートされたメリル・ストリープのこと。これを合わせてメリルはアカデミー賞に16回ノミネートされており、これは俳優としての最多記録です。すごいですね！
8. “good kisser”とは、キスのうまい人。play(プレイする) → player(プレイする人)というように、動詞の後ろにerをつけて～する人、となるパターンで、kiss(キスする) → kisser(キスする人)となります。
十分な時間がないので、私にとってこの映画で描かれているもの、それは、赤ちゃんや子供たちをどこから来たかにかかわらず世話をする母親たちに感謝したいと思います。そんな母親や親たちは決して感謝されません。
9. “what this film is about” は、直訳すると、この映画が何であるかについて。わかりにくいですね・・・。疑問文から考えていくと少しわかりやすいでしょうか。”what is this film about?”(これは何についての映画ですか？/何が描かれている映画ですか？)を肯定形にしたものなので、映画描かれている内容、という意味になります。ここの説明には限界がありますね・・・すみません。要するに、この映画のテーマということです。
10. “no matter ～”で、～にかかわらず。～の部分には、主語と述語のある「文」がきます。
とりわけ私は、感謝をし損ねました。ですから、この時間を使ってヘルガ・Bに感謝できるなら、18歳まで私に男の子たちと一緒に車に乗るのを許してくれなかったことに感謝します。なぜなら彼女は正しかったから。私は、彼女が私がすると言ったことをしてしまっていたでしょう。家に帰ると毎日、ピアノや、バレエや、私がしたかったこと何でもを、練習させられたことを感謝します。
11. “in particular” は、「特に、とりわけ」。
12. “fail to ～”は、「～に失敗する、～し損ねる」で、”thank one”の”one”は前の文章にあった”moms”の単数形”mom”を、繰り返しを避けて”one”で置き換えたものなので、この意味は「母親」になります。
13. ヘルガ・Bとはもちろん、サンドラの母親、ヘルガ・ブルックのこと。ドイツ人のオペラ歌手だそうです。
彼女は、アーティストになるには、毎日練習しなくてはならないと言いました。そして、人種も、宗教も、階層制度も、肌の色も、何も、性的指向も、私たちを他の人よりも優れたものにはしないと娘たちに言い聞かせてくれたことに感謝します。私たちはみんな愛に値しているのです。
14. ここの”for”は、前の文章から続く、”thank you for ～” (～に感謝します)の、thank youを省略した後のforです。”remind 人 that ～”で、「人に～ということを思い出させる、言い聞かせる」という意味です。
15. “deserve of ～”で、～に値する。日本語ではすこし堅苦しいですが、英語では割合よく使う表現です。サンドラは、人種・宗教・階層制度（身分の差）・肌の色・性的指向にかかわらず、誰もが愛される資格を持つ、と語っているんですね。
これらのすばらしい女性たちと、私の恋人メリル・ストリープと分かち合うこの機会に本当に感謝します。ありがとう。
最後に、サンドラはまたメリル・ストリープをひきあいにだして笑いを誘い、スピーチを締めくくりました。

Four of them that I’ve fallen deeply in love with I share this night with and I share this award with: Gabby, I love you so much. You are exquisite. You are beyond words to me.

Helen, I feel like we are family through family and I don’t have the words to express just what I think of you. And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you are such a good kisser.
I have so many people to thank for my good fortune in this lifetime and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I know.
To the family that allowed me to play them, the Tuohy family, I know they’re in here and you’ll probably hear her in a minute. Maybe not. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to… the family that made this film that gave me the opportunity to do something different.
John Lee Hancock, Gil Netter, Alcon, Warner Bros., the actors, everyone who’s shown me kindness when it wasn’t fashionable, I thank you.
To everyone who was mean to me when it wasn’t… George Clooney threw me in a pool years ago. I’m still holding a grudge. But there’s so many people to thank.
Not enough time, so I would like to thank what this film is about for me which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from. Those moms and parents never get thanked.
I, in particular, failed to thank one. So… if I can take this moment to thank Helga B. for not letting me ride in cars with boys until I was 18 because she was right. I would’ve done what she said I was gonna do. For making me practice every day when I got home. Piano, ballet, whatever it is I wanted to be.
She said to be an artist, you had to practice every day, and for reminding her daughters that there’s no race, no religion, no class system, no color, nothing, no sexual orientation that makes us better than anyone else. We are all deserving of love.
So, to that trailblazer, who allowed me to have that [Sandra nods to husband Jesse James in the audience]. And this. And this.
