Q: Young, famous, successful, and single. Do you have anything in common with the romantic player you take on in Crazy, Stupid, Love?
RG:No. I’m more like Steve Carrell’s character — more the clueless, longing guy. And I don’t think my character is what he seems. He’s hurting, too. Q: If it’s not you, how did you get into the part of “playing the player?”
RG: I just did all of those things men’s magazines say to do: How to dress, what exercises you’re supposed to do — all of that. I don’t know enough about picking up women or playing “the game,” but there are men out there who swear by it. But the general philosophy of the film is not to use pickup lines or lame bar banter. Just talk to them as you would to a friend. Q: Crazy, Sexy, Love is your first comedy. Why did you pick this one?
RG: I always wanted to do a comedy, but I wanted to pick the right one. But it came down to working with Steve Carell. I’ve wanted to work with him since I met him years ago as a kid. If you’re going to lose your comic virginity, you want it to be with Steve. And the same goes for Emma Stone. As soon as she walked into the room, I knew the movie would be good. I was well surrounded. I watched all of both [Carrell’s and Stone’s] movies because I was a fan, but also to see what they do. I realized that they’re so good because they make everyone around them funny. There’s something about what they do, how they react. So, even though I’ve never made a film like this before — it was outside my comfort zone — I just gave myself over to my fellow actors and accepted the help.surrounded 囲まれる comfort zone 安全地帯、居心地のいい範囲 fellow 仲間
